Why inventory comes before unit size

Room count is a useful starting point, but two two-bedroom homes can differ by hundreds of cubic feet. A real item list removes most of that uncertainty and also gives the visualizer and packing planner something concrete to work with.

Preset starting points, each computed from a real item list rather than a rule of thumb
Home typePreset volumeWeightBoxes in that figureRecommended size
Studio apartment278 cu ft1,655 lb155x10 at 82% full
1 bedroom apartment445 cu ft2,685 lb2610x10 at 65% full
2 bedroom apartment630 cu ft3,945 lb4110x15 at 62% full
3 bedroom house1,168 cu ft7,060 lb6210x20 at 86% full
4 bedroom house1,632 cu ft9,790 lb8810x30 at 80% full

Load a preset and edit it: the presets exist to save typing, not to replace your list. The gap between the preset and your edited list is exactly the uncertainty a room count would have left in the estimate.

What the catalog covers

Every quantity you set is multiplied by a published packed volume and weight, so the plan the other tools read is traceable to one dataset:

RoomItems availableVolume rangeLargest single item
Living room202–70 cu ftUpright piano (70 cu ft)
Bedroom155–75 cu ftKing bed set (75 cu ft)
Dining room65–40 cu ftChina cabinet / hutch (40 cu ft)
Kitchen & laundry153–65 cu ftRefrigerator, French door / side-by-side (65 cu ft)
Home office95–35 cu ftDesk, executive / L-shaped (35 cu ft)
Garage & outdoor204–60 cu ftRiding mower (60 cu ft)
Boxes & cartons101.5–25 cu ftLoose mattress (25 cu ft)

All 95 values are published in full in the furniture dimension dataset, with CSV and JSON downloads and the method behind them.

What this inventory records — and what it cannot

Catalog values are typical packed cubic feet and loaded weight, not product measurements. Quantities and custom items remain in this browser and are reused by the other planning tools. The inventory cannot know whether furniture is disassembled, whether boxes are full, or whether an item clears the facility door; use custom dimensions for unusual pieces and measure the actual opening before renting.
